The Biggest Story {A Christian Kids Book Review}

Book Reviews

18 Feb

I am always on the lookout for Christian storybooks that I can share with my kids and my nieces/nephews. Recently, I was introduced to one that I can’t wait to tell you about. The Biggest Story is a Bible storybook that is full of incredible artwork and a seamless telling of the Bible.

I am thoroughly impressed with the way the author presents this overview of the Bible in a way that will capture the attention of children of all ages. The artwork will get their attention, and it will bring the stories to life from one page to the next.  Engaging text and phenomenal artwork make The Biggest Story a must-read children's Bible story book. | embarkonthejourney.com

The Biggest Story

About the Product

Once upon a time there lived a man and a woman. They were the happiest people on the planet.

True, they were the only people on the planet, but they were still terrifically happy.

Unfortunately, things didn’t stay happy and wonderful for long . . .

The Bible is full of exciting stories that fill children with awe and wonder. But kids need to know how all those classic stories connect to Scripture’s overarching message about God’s glorious plan to redeem his rebellious people.

In The Biggest Story, Kevin DeYoung—a best-selling author and father of six—leads kids and parents alike on an exciting journey through the Bible, connecting the dots from the garden of Eden to Christ’s death on the cross to the new heaven and new earth.

With powerful illustrations by award-winning artist Don Clark, this imaginative retelling of the Bible’s core message—how the Snake Crusher brings us back to the garden—will draw children into the biblical story, teaching them that God’s promises are even bigger and better than we think.

About the Author/Publisher

Kevin DeYoung (MDiv, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary) is senior pastor at University Reformed Church in East Lansing, Michigan. He blogs at the Gospel Coalition and has authored or coauthored numerous well-known books such as Just Do Something, The Hole in Our Holiness, Taking God At His Word, and What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality?, as well as the award-winning books Why We’re Not Emergent, Why We Love the Church (with Ted Kluck), and Crazy Busy.

My Thoughts

Not all children’s Bible story books are equal! And, The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden is proof of that! From the moment I opened the package, I was drawn into the book by the amazing artwork that adorned the entire book from cover to cover.

Beyond the images on each page, the story is the best part, of course. Kevin deYoung does a fantastic of walking children through the Bible in a way that flows like one big story. Most children’s Bibles and story books I’ve read to and with my children are pretty disjointed.

However, The Biggest Story flows from one story to the next pretty smoothly. Children are able to see that the stories in the Bible are actually connected. The actions of one person have consequences for the next generation. They can see how God is able to use regular, every day people to do His work.

This book is a work of art – from the words that he wrote to the artwork on each page. It’s a must-read for children and adults alike!

I would love to win this book for use with teaching children or reading to my future grandchildren (plus I love to read Bible stories that are well written and illustrated)!

I just came across your website from a link at Money Saving Mom for a preschool printable pack. I just purchased this book through a lady at my church who was doing a mass purchase (and thereby getting a good deal). I thought the artwork was OK, but my 4 year old son was completely drawn to it as well as the story. He wanted to read the whole thing in one sitting, even though it was a bit longer than I thought his attention span would tolerate. It is an excellent book and I can’t recommend it enough!
